Jl at helm 1Mission: Coach sailors to sail with confidence

Vision: Explore new horizons

Motto: “Add Sailing To Your Bucket List”

Favourite: “Mom, when I grow up, I want to be a sailor” – “Well Son, you have to decide, you can’t do both…”

My name is Jean-loup Dalle and my style of coaching is very relaxed. The emphasis is on learning in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

I coach folks of all ages and all skill levels, using a combination of online theoretical education [NauticEd], and on-water practical coaching.

I provide one-on-one training that can be executed on your own boat, on your own schedule or even on a charter vacation if you so desire.

I hold a commercial Master of Yacht 200 Tons Limited  from International Yacht Training, complying with STCW’95 Regulations. I am a certified cruising instructor with Sail Canada and NauticEd .

What is the difference between an instructor and a coach? Instructing has a top-down approach. Coaching is more of a student-centered approach to learning and creating confidence, self esteem, and awareness.

I am looking forward to being your coach.

Jean-loup is, hands-down, the best instructor I’ve ever had. I did my CYA cruising course with him last summer. He’s always calm, cheeful, full of energy and incredibly knowledgeable. You can’t go wrong when he’s at the tiller.

Absolutely agreed, and he’s great with kids (the big ones too)!

I took CYA Basic Cruising course with Jean-loup in Summer 2011 — one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Jean-loup is an incredible instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable, and has a wealth of experience on pretty much anything sailing-related you can think of. Jean-loup has excellent people skills, and is just a lot of fun to be around.

At NauticEd, we’re proud to have Jean-Loup as an affiliated sailing school and we enjoy the good feedback we get from his students after they have taken the online theory sailing courses with us at http://www.nauticed.org/sailingschool . It’s a good partnership!

Terrific to be instructed by Jean-loup. It is un-pressured, fun and safe!

Jean-loup helped me deliver my boat – a Hunter 41 – from Wiarton to the BVIs. Throughout the journey, Jean-loup always provided a knowledgeable and approachable presence on board. The rest of the crew gained confidence and improved their skills, in no small part due to Jean-loup’s efforts and willingness to teach. I highly recommend Jean-loup to anyone wishing to improve their sailing skills regardless of the situation, the task or their current ability level.

I met Jean-loup at the Toronto Boat Show 2014 and simply can’t wait to take sailing training from him early this summer. My ‘new to me’ and first sailboat is a Freedom 32 in Florida and I simply can’t think of a better instructor to launch my sailing career.

Just had another 3 day boot camp with Jean-loup on Georgian Bay. A fantastic expedition northwards to Echo Bay via the Western Islands and then south via the Small Craft Channel and across Nottawasaga Bay, and then drills just outside of Thornbury. As always J-l is generous as well as patient with his coaching approach and hospitality on his boat.

Anyone in the Georgian Bay area that is serious about sailing and needs to find an instructor, this is you man. I have been out numerous times with JL and every time it was about learning and honing the skills.
Patience, confidence building and knowledge transfer are only part of what he brings.
Did my first solo this past weekend and I had his voice in my head as I went through the paces. Perfect.
Thanks JL!!
Peter
